Well, I got my first written response from the state. So, far, I think I have sent out 4 or 5 applications to various locations that have vacancies for the position that I tested for. Unfortunately, this particular location did not offer me an interview. I'm not too bent out of shape about it, perhaps because there are still locations that I am waiting to hear from. The way that the ranking system works is tricky, with some locations seeking the best of the best, meaning, they are only looking for folks who rank in the top 3. That wasn't me this time. We'll see what happens...
Seems like my life has been revolving around job search. Its really depressing. To sit around with nothing to do, in someone else's space - I have been bored out of my damn mind, and when I'm not bored, I'm depressed, and when I'm not depressed, I'm irritable - which is a symptom of depression - so, I guess I'm basically just frickin' bored and depressed the majority of the time. I did get out of the house Friday night to have a couple of drinks and some adult time with the mamas. Its always nice to be in great company, and my UCB family is always great company. But now the weekend is over, and its back to focusing on trying to make things better.
I have been completely neglecting my business, but hopefully I will feel more like engaging in some yarn play soon. I am finishing up a pretty pink and white blanket that I am hoping to add to the shop by next week. Then maybe I can get started on the lavendar and white blanket, and maybe it will be the correct size when I am done! The pink and white blanket is less baby and more preschooler. I must have been crocheting with a tired hand. Its still a beautiful creation. I will show you all once I have some pictures.
How was your weekend? What's new?

For this to be such a place of comfort, I'm not feeling all that comfortable here anymore. Don't worry, none of you did anything. Its not the readers/visitors/followers, its the aesthetic of this place. I'm way over it! This green and purple, and the chick up top enjoying the acupuncture gots to go. That heffa ain't me!! Hmph, I STILL haven't made it to the spa!
Its time for A Place of Comfort to get a makeover. I need to be inspired to share my life here. I like to look at my blog when I'm not writing. Make sure everything is in its place and just hang out for a while. Lately, I haven't wanted to hang out here. I've been doing more hanging at my other blog... that one's a secret.
Can any of you help me bring the comfort back to this place? Who do you know and love that puts their all into blog design?
Just think. We would have been celebrating a lot sooner had I not fallen off the face of the earth. Don't worry, I'm semi-back now, and with good news to share...
First, I bought my cap & gown last week, along with a hat and extra tassel for Miss J so that she can get all dressed up and walk the stage with me. Since her school isn't doing a Kindergarten graduation we're gonna kick it up a notch. These ceremonies will prove to be some of my grandest memories as I'll retell the story to her as she grows, look back at the photos and realize just how much of a role model I truly was to my child, and that I laid the ground work for her to move forward in life. I did that! All me! I am so grateful to have been a parent while at Cal. I couldn't have become a mother at a better time. Because of my opportunity, I was able to pass along vital lessons and opportunities to my baby. It just doesn't get any better than that ya'll.
I created some photo announcements through Vista Print and I am looking forward to loading up the mailbox, which for now, will be the equivalent of me shouting from the rooftop that I've made it! Though I still haven't quite figured out what comes next, I'm ready to move on to the next stage of life. And not a moment too soon, since I'll be turning 25 in 7 days! And Miss J will be turning 6 in 53 days! We are both getting old. Don't get me wrong, I know that with age comes wisdom. I accept that. I don't have a problem turning 25... I just have a problem having a 6 year old. What happened to my baby? Where did she go? She's so independent, and so... her, that one day I am gonna reach for her and she's gonna tell me in a sweet voice that she doesn't need me anymore. Because that's just the type of person she is. The kind that will choose a college on the other side of the world just to get the hell away from mom, and as far away from mom as humanly possible.
Ahhhh... kids. Speaking of which, have a look at Thing 1 and Thing 2...
Talk about growing up fast! They are sitting, rolling around the house in their walkers, pulling up, crawling, fighting with each other, extremely concerned when the other cries, has to have as many turns in the lap as the other, and I am sure the list goes on and on. What still shocks me the most about these two though is their personalities. While Thing 2 is now growing curly hair in a mohawk like her sister, Thing 1 is growing teeth. 5 OF THEM!! Like, how the heck does a kid grow 5 teeth in like a month?? I was super shocked. Got little Miss Thing 2 playing catch up in that department as she is still gumming her food.
Miss J and I hope to one day be blessed with a little play mate of our own... one day soon might I add, because as much as I am wishing that I could slow Miss J's growth process, I DO NOT wanna be looking at someone else for like, another 10 or 12 or 14 years after Miss J has left the nest. Uh uh, nope. So yeah, Ms Bar B is also putting in some work in the love department this year.... more on that later.
I know I told you that I'd be back last week when I was on Spring Break, but I was all busy sleeping, watching movies, and attending my friend's son's baseball games trying to power through readings in preparation for an upcoming midterm and encourage myself to complete a month old paper for the same class. Because the midterm hasn't happened yet and neither has the paper, I am not officially "here", but still in a mode of preparation and self encouragement.
Now that that's outta the way... how've ya'll been??? I miss you a bunch! I hope I haven't missed too much excitement to get all caught up on. I don't have much excitement to report at the moment since studying is everything BUT exciting. I did get orders for 2 baby blankets though... now I just gotta find time to get them done before their future owners enter the world.
I also decided to get a haircut this week. I'll be in Wildboy's chair tomorrow morning. I am loving my curls, but there is just something about waves that I equally love. I gotta have em'. So I'm gonna employ my Ex to school me on how to "train" my hair, which I already know is gonna involve a lot of brushing. I was gonna let it grow out until graduation and possibly get some baby locs, but at the rate my hair is currently growing, by the time I'm ready to walk the stage my growth will more than likely be right back where it is now if I don't decide to cut again before then. We'll see what happens.
This is the growth so far. I went and let Wildboy clean me up in the back a couple of weeks ago.
Tomorrow I will be looking more like this...
So, not completely bald again, but just enough for me to start brushing the hell out of it and tying it up at night in hopes of getting it to eventually look like this...
Alrighty then... that's all for now. I shall return soon...
I know I've been missing in action for a while... not stopping by to visit some of you as much as I usually do, and not posting as regularly as I have been. I have been busy trying to survive this semester in tact... or at least, I have been planning an attack on the semester that is suppose to help me conquer it once and for all.
I really can't wait to be back to my some-what normal self again so that I can engage more with all of you. I have some interesting things on the brain, like:
- How my ex-boyfriend is A LOT like Greg House
- Black men being intimidated by empowered black women
- "Happy Pills"
- Being one of a collective who's exit plan is still a work in progress
- My new hair growth =)
See ya in a few.
