Pretty in Peace and the Self


The only vow that I made upon coming into this new year was to myself. That I would start to put myself first and let everything else fall into place around me. Its been a slow start considering the amount of stressors that are still present in my life, but fortunately, I'm not the only momma out there who is on this journey. A number of you have made the same vow to yourself, and have been a source of inspiration and encouragement. Renee of Cutie Booty Cakes has made tremendous progress toward her goal of living a healthier lifestyle and getting back to her pre-Mekhi body. She has been kicking butt in her weightloss challenges and coming out on top. Just see for yourself. And Tara of The Young Mommy Life has started a Happy Mom Series where she is challenging us moms to begin to impliment little positive changes and rewards into our daily routines that benefit us, and only us. We are already on challenge #5!

This week, my friend Tameka of Tea & Honey Bread has also presented a self love and appreciation challenge. T. bluntly wants us to join her in giving a shit about the way that we present ourselves. Not necessarily to others, but to the person who stares back at us each time we look in the mirror. Simply adding a little color to her daily wardrobe is one of the ways that T. is giving a shit this week. Months ago T. asked me if I would become a face, well... actually, earlobe of her earrings from her Pretty in Peace Etsy shop and I was honored to say yes. I am not even going to tell you how long her beautiful designs have been taunting me from my jewelry box. Today, I finally took them out and picked a pair, just to show T. that I totally give a shit about her creativity and I give a shit about being a better me! One awesome pair of earrings at a time.



Thank you Ms. Tameka for intrusting your designs to me, and thank all of you ladies for being the greatest global support team that a girl could have. Something New


So, I know I said that I wanted to try out some baby locs on my hair. Since then, I've gotten a haircut, and let it grow again. I'm so indecisive when it comes to hair. Its hard not to be when there are so many fun things that can be done with it. Today, I stood in front of the mirror running my fingers through my curls, trying to decide if I wanted to part with them once again. Wildboy and I had talked about doing a mohawk the next time I came to see him and I was a little apprehensive. Again, this is the usual. I always am when considering something new. I pushed all of that to the side this morning and just let Wildboy do his thang.


What do you think of my frohawk? You know we always have to put a spin on things. I'm glad I wasn't too chicken to try it out because I'm completely in love. Its fun, its funky, and its wearable. And I will be wearing out tonight when I hit the country bar with the Cal mommies. Yes, I am going to get my line dance on, punk rock style.

Its not perfect, but its close to what I envisioned. My friend will be coming to pick it up on Tuesday and I hope that she is pleased with both the presentation and the product as a whole. I'll let you know...

Something New


Just completed a new version of my Maze blanket for the nursery of a friend's newborn son. Remember the two blankets that I told you I sold before the end of the semester? Well, this is one of them. Blue and chocolate brown. The other will be a pastel green and yellow one for another little boy due in July. And I am still working on Miss J's all pink blanket that she has been hounding me to finish.

Hopefully, one day I will be moving these blankets off my couch for pictures and onto a more appropriate prop, such as a crib, or nice chair. For now, the couch will have to do because I'm not sure how long I will be holding on to this one, and because I plan on packaging it tomorrow and once its wrapped it'll stay that way until its owner unwraps it. I'll will fold it in a signature fold, wrap it in tulle, which is much better than celophane, then tie with an "Its a Boy" ribbon. It looks beautiful in my mind, we'll see how it looks once I start getting creative.
