Like All Good Things...

Winter Break must come to an end. I'm sitting here trying to determine if I want to get out of bed or not. Although there are things that need to be done, after reading the wise words of Mrs. Allen-Mercado, I'm asking myself, "do I really want to?" The answer is a big fat NO. I'd much rather spend my Saturday lazily under the covers. Obviously Miss J would like to spend her Saturday during the same because she has invited me to pop some corn and watch a movie with her. Perhaps its because its wet aside, or because I know this is the last official day of rest since tomorrow will be spent preparing to get back in the grove of getting Miss J off to school and such, whatever the reason, staying in bed sounds kinda nice.

I finally decided to crack open Suze Orman's Women & Money last night, and now half way through, I'm sitting here accompanied by this month's bills, a pen, a pad and a calculator. I'm usually really organized and routine with my finances, but ever since I was laid off things have been all over the place. Since its a new year, and I have new job opportunities unfolding, its time to restore order. I figure, I at least need to know all of the important numbers so that once income gets generated everything can just fall into place. I find the 5-month plan that Suze outlines in her book to be interesting, so I'm going to try it and see where it gets me. So far, it all looks promising because some of the steps that she suggests, I already do.

Lucky for me, all of this can be done from the comforts of my bed.

Glad to hear that you are kicking things in gear w/ the end of the Winter break. Sounds like you needed the relaxation period, and now on to a different phase. Best of luck to you with the new job opportunity!!

i went through the same thing this morning: to get up or not to get up. the bed was just so warm and cozy! actually, maybe 85% of time i'd rather be in bed.

thatsuze orman knows she does not play when it comes to setting folks straight about their finances!

Oh yes, I know the feeling, both the budging and budgeting! We're following Dave Ramsey's plan this year to get out of debt (pay off the car and vacation home, etc.) and have a larger cushion. All I want to do is buy shoes and vintage photos...but the show must go on! :D Good luck with your motivation.

congrats on the new job! And... I really need to get on some kind of program for saving money. I've got the paying bills on time DOWN, with a separate account for spending money, but the problem is that we really do spend too, too much!

@ Execumama: Oh yes. Relaxation is always needed around here. I'm a little sad to see the break go, but at least I wont be headed straight back into classes so that's a plus.

@f Flytie: Me too!! The bed is the best place on earth. I could use a new mattress though. Once I get a new one, there is a very real possibility that I could end up spending that 85% in there, lol.

@ T: That's great. Being out of debt is the best feeling EVER. See, when you are where you wanna be, you can display though beautiful photos and rock those hot shoes while vacationing in your home =).

@ Shannon: I'm so sure that you will figure out how to get your savings plan started. Maybe trading in a couple of your luxuries for some money in the bank. You can always check out Suze's website for some ideas/tips or another financial guru =). Thanks for the congrats, but I don't have a new job yet, just an interview. We'll see what happens next.
