The Things We Find While Job Searching

So, upon looking at the millionth job ad on craigslist, I decided to branch out and give Monster.com a try. I put "entry-level" into the search, because, that's what I'm looking for, and up pops a wing of Monster called Monster College. Apparently, this little subdivision is supposed to be chalked full of helpful advice to those who are still in college and to those who have just graduated. I did find some positions that were not listed on craigslist, which was nice. However, I spotted something interesting near the bottom of the site. Oh, I should probably mention that Monster College is kind of like a networking site, as in, it's one of Monster.com's communities where folks can join and share resources. So, anyway, I was scrolling along, and I noticed a quiz/trivia question...

Click on the image above to see what the question was and share your thoughts (if you have any).

I mean really is that even necessary? I just can't believe how insensitive people are being about that issue.

These are some of my thoughts too. Since when is rape trivial? Just seeing that someone deemed it appropriate to use Monique's experience, and the experience of rape and molestation period, in this way, just completely turned me off from the whole site.

I think that's absolutely pathetic! What the hell does rape have to do with a job search? Is that shit gonna be an interview question or a criteria for getting the damned job?! That's crazy and whoever pushed the "authorize" button for that, should be fired. I can't believe that! Wow! Bizarre, to say the least. Somebody should get punched in the face for that!

My thoughts... I really don't want to know. That is something that is very private... like who would want the entire freaking world to know that you were raped when you were 7??? Come on... and, what the FREAK does it have to do with finding a job anyway???

I was NOT expecting that at all. Wow, that was awful. Is that really supposed to be of public record and important to a job search? WOW.

My guess is that the question was created and added to the site by a member of the Monster College group. Its just extremely stupid and immature.

@ Shannon: Oh, the information was made public by the person that it happened to, on her own account. I don't have a problem with that at all. I think that when people speak out about rape and molestation it is a tremendous aid to those of us who have experienced it also, BUT, to then have that information used as part of a trivia question? That is just stupid on the part of the people who decided to do that.

yeah, that seems a bit much. (to have it referred to in some rooty poot trivia question0
