For Miss J's introduction into 1st grade, I graduated her from her legendary afro puff, to a two-strand twist style. It was a long process for us, but one that we were both extremely happy with in the end. Just look at that smile!
I like this style most for its versatility and ability to let her hair rest. Miss J has a head full of hair, and not only is it thick, its looooong. She is definitely her mother's child! You can't tell from these pictures that her hair is almost down to her little booty, because, as we all know, curls spring up, and natural hair shrinks when it dries. Her edges were starting to look a little thin, probably from pulling it up into a puff and pulling it into little ponytails. With this style, her hair gets to breathe and flow.
We got to have a little fun with it by pulling one side up and pinning in place with two butterfly clips. I also oil the twists every few days with Blended Beauty Natural Hair Oil and then cover with a satin hair bonnet at night.
At the end of the week I am going to give her a twist-out, where I will untwist her hair and left her curls fall where they may into a textured afro. My little beauty inspires me to grow my own little crop out.
I think I have about 1 1/2 inches of length right now. I had just applied some oil to my hair after finishing Miss J's and decided to take a few pictures because at the moment, a quick glance in the mirror yielded happiness. I really liked what I saw.
I don't know where my style will end up. I am caught between wanting to cut again, and wanting to continue the growth and get some started locs. I'm not going to make the decision to loc my hair right now because I'm still not sure, but I am totally in love with the coils that you get from comb/palm rolled twists. They are just beautiful. Whenever I do get the style I will be sure to share some pictures.
