Its Beginning to Feel A Lot Like Christmas

This was our tree a couple of years ago. It would have also been last year's tree had half the bulbs not gone out. Yep, that's right. We go fake around here. No Christmas Tree Farm visiting and pine needles for us. I don't know nothin' 'bout trimmin' no tree! I don't even know if trees from the farm still need to be trimmed. So, I just stick with something that can be popped outta a box and comes pre-lit. We still get to add our own flare to it with sentimental ornaments and our flying Santa tree topper.

Last year's tree (which will also be this year's tree) was all decked out in blue and silver and was pre-lit with all white bulbs. We also have a blue and silver tree skirt with matching pillows and throw for the couch. All to coordinate with our blue and white snowman table setting. We may not get snow in the Bay Area, but that doesn't stop us from transforming our home into a winter wonderland. I am hoping to dig out the tree this weekend, after I've finished all of my last minute work. That tree skirt may remain empty this holiday season, but the tree will be going up anyway. Aside from decorating the house, the other thing that I love to do for Christmas is create greeting cards. Although I like to buy boxes of cards, I also like to do photo cards. A couple of years ago I took a picture of Miss J surrounded by presents while we were visiting my aunt in Arizona. We took a trip down to Walgreens, popped in the SD and got busy. Its so easy to do... and fun... and personal. I have a secret obsession with things that are/can be personalized. Since there will be no gift giving on my end this year, maybe I will try to revive this mini tradition.

Have you gotten into the Christmas spirit yet? What are some of the things that you like to do with your family for the holidays?

Well-since I'm a holiday decorating dictator, we have a theme every year...color schemes or specific ornaments. This year is all silver. We also play board games on Christmas afternoon in our pajamas, while I sip wine or beer and cook dinner. Then we eat and end the evening with a family movie. Simple pleasures. I can't wait to see your tree.

A few years ago my family (parents, siblings, in-laws, etc) decided to choose names. In the past we had always made it a point to get everyone in the family presents. Well, that is just too dang expensive. Having one person to buy a gift for has worked out just fine for everybody. Less shopping and less money to spend.

What city does your Aunt live in Arizona? I used to live in Phoenix.

Hi there Ms. Bar B!

Sasa? Vipi? I love the music going on the background as I type...

Yes, we are definitely in the Christmas spirit at our house. I've got some candles going in the fire place for now every evening...Tree is going up this weekend. And, this year, if time permits, I will recreate the African Christmas that we celebrated as I was but a young girl in Nairobi, Kenya.

Ms. Barb, I'm slowly getting into the spirit. Hopefully this weekend I will start decorating. I always wait until the last minute to do everything, I really need to stop!

Your tree is cute!

I thought trimming the tree meant to decorate it... oh well learn something new everyday. We get a live one, so I'll wait til next week. I know it's not very green, my daughter already told me that. I don't care I like the smell, and I'm not evolved enough to go fake. I',m tryin dang...

Girl, we're trying to save money around these parts. I want to put the tree up, but I hyperventilate when our electric bill goes above $70. So....we might wait a few more days. The kids are still young enough that they don't know what Christmas is! Their presents are sitting out, on the floor, in our bedroom, in full view, and they're like, "Whatever." I love this age! :)

I am so NOT in the christmas spirit this year... I mean its not the same anymore when your grown anyway...

There is nothing I really want... I'm not going home for christmas...

Its just going to be another day for me. I may go to ATL to party for that weekend... so if I do I'll be traveling on that day... its always hella cheap to travel on the day of.
