Gobble Gobble Mr. T. Turkey

For most folks, Thanksgiving is all about the bird, but for me, turkey is the last thing that my taste buds crave. I am most content when my plate is overflowing with dressing (not to be confused with stuffing) topped with cranberry sauce and a piece of sweet potato pie on the side. That right there is like heaven to me. Sure, I like all the fixings that get passed around the table, but I keep a set eye on that dressing, always make sure to have a surplus of cranberry sauce on hand and let my grandma know while the mixer is still beating potatoes that I will be taking at least two pies home with me.

This year, my kitchen will be the site of spices, potatoes, pie crust, and other ingredients as I retry my hand at my old favorites. I will resist the urge to call my grandma to walk me through the simple preparation and call on Essence Magazine to do that instead. I found a Sweet Potato Pie recipe to add to my collection. I will also be whipping up some dressing, greens, and chicken breast, instead of turkey. I am looking forward to welcoming my grandparents to my table for a glass of Martinelli's and a wonderful feast.

What are your favorite Thanksgiving dishes?

What exactly is the difference between stuffing and dressing. I always thought they were the same thing. But my faves are your faves. Love the dressing/stuffing and I love, love, love to make Sweet potato pie!

ya know...i need to take the initiative and make me a sweet potato pie. and while i'm at it, i need to get my mom to teach me to make her delectable, crusty peach cobbler. i think i've said it before, but these are two desserts that i have no problem going non-vegan for.mmmmmm...

(most desserts for that matter, ha!)

i also love dressing. and my mom makes me the best meatless version ever in the world. in the past i'd always go hard on her homemade macaroni and cheese. then there are the vegetables...corn, greens, squash.

how wonderful of you to have your grandparents over for dinner. :-)

I love mashed potatoes, gravy, greens, and stuffing. I make a veggie loaf instead of turkey or sometimes Tofurky. I even made a pecan salmon. This year we will be in Sunny Florida. I am not sure what I'll be eating hopes it's good. I will be bringing my own loaf for sure.

greens topped with crushed red pepper and a cap full of vinegar...i'm straight with greens, corn bread and some hoppin' john (black eyed peas and rice) i know that's traditionally new year's fair, but i run this show ;)

our menu is still up in the air this year-good luck with your new recipes.
